Who's who at the Kugatsu Karate-Do Sensei Graham McCann (5th Dan) Sensei Graham McCann is our Founder and Chief Instructor. He started his training in Shukokai karate in August 1974 at the Kobe Osaka Karate-Do Renmei (Chief Instructor Shihan Tommy Morris - 8th Dan). Graham was promoted to the rank of Shodan (1st Dan) by Shihan Morris in June 1982 and was promoted to Go-dan (5th Dan) by Shihan Greg Wallace (8th Dan) and other senior BASKA instructors on 26th October 2008. Graham is an SKGB level 3 coach and a British Karate Fedeartion (BKF) Kata Judge and Kumite Referee. Along with Sensei Billy Haggarty and Sensei Bobby Morton, Graham founded a new Scottish based karate association; Karate Kai Scotland. Graham is the current chairperson of our association. Sensei Mark Marshall (3rd Dan) Mark is an assistant instructor to the Junior classes, his background is in Shito-Ryu (Kusano-Ha, and Ishimi Shitokai). He trained with one association in Scotland (Shitokai Scotland) for almost 20 years before joining the Kugatsu Karate-Do (and Baska Karate) in 2007. Mark started his karate career at the age of 13, at the then-named Kenshikan Kenpo Karate-do under Sensei Terry Connell, in 1986. He was promoted to Shodan by Shihan Kenji Kusano in May 1992, and was promoted to 3rd Dan by Baska Karate on 26th October 2008. Mark has represented Scotland at major championships in both individual and team kata; some of highlights include Scottish Senior Male Kata Champion 2002, British Senior Team Kata Champions 2002, Scottish Senior Team Kata Champions 2000 - 02 and runner-up British Veteren Kata Championships 2008. Mark is an SKGB Kata Judge B.
